The Base of the Pyramid Protocol™ is a pioneering business incubation process that enables multinational corporations (MNCs) to generate new business opportunities to at the base of the economic pyramid. Based on a participatory philosophy, the BoP Protocol™ is a model for business co-creation that marries MNCs’ resources, technologies and best practices with those of the community.

Established in 2003, the BoP Protocol™ Project grew out of BoP Learning Lab™ activities. It aims to generate insight into the processes by which firms can identify and develop sustainable new products and business models in partnership with low income communities.

To that end, the project is establishing and testing a "protocol" for a deeper understanding of the needs, perspectives and capabilities of BoP communities in a manner that provides them and the corporation with lasting value.

Envisioned as an inclusive, "open-source" effort, the BoP Protocol™ embraces diverse perspectives and experiences in an on-going conversation to expand our understanding of how corporations and BoP communities can work together for mutual gain.
